Potential Complications
Instability

Infection
Although uncommon, infection requires prompt evaluation and sometimes revision surgery.
Nerve Injury
Temporary nerve irritation may occur. Permanent nerve injury is rare.
Implant Loosening
Implants may loosen over many years or because of bone loss or infection.
Persistent Pain Or Stiffness

How Are Complications Evaluated?
Determining the cause of a painful reverse shoulder replacement requires more than looking at X-rays. Evaluation often includes a careful history, physical examination, imaging, laboratory studies, and occasionally aspiration of the shoulder joint.

Physical Exam
Motion, strength, stability, and pain pattern.
Imaging
X-rays and CT scanning when indicated.
Laboratory Tests
Used when infection is suspected.
Revision Surgery
