What Does “Failed” Mean?

A shoulder replacement is considered "failed" when it does not provide the expected improvement in pain, motion, stability, or function. This may occur shortly after surgery or develop gradually over time.

Importantly, not every painful shoulder replacement has truly failed—and not every problem requires revision surgery.
