How Does A Cortisone Injection Help?
Frozen shoulder causes inflammation within the joint capsule. A corticosteroid injection decreases that inflammation, often reducing pain and making stretching exercises easier to perform.
The injection does not "break up scar tissue" or immediately loosen the capsule. Instead, it creates a window during which rehabilitation is often more comfortable and more productive.

An injection is most effective when paired with a dedicated stretching program. Pain relief without rehabilitation usually results in less improvement in shoulder motion.
Will One Injection Cure Frozen Shoulder?
No. Frozen shoulder typically improves over time as the capsule gradually loosens. A cortisone injection can accelerate pain relief, but it does not eliminate the natural healing process or replace stretching and rehabilitation.

When Is Surgery Considered?
Most patients recover without surgery. However, if significant pain and stiffness persist despite appropriate rehabilitation and other conservative treatments, arthroscopic capsular release may be recommended to restore shoulder motion.
