Frozen Shoulder

Frozen shoulder, also called adhesive capsulitis, causes painful loss of shoulder motion due to inflammation and tightening of the shoulder capsule.

Symptoms

• Loss of motion
• Pain with movement
• Night pain
• Difficulty reaching overhead
• Difficulty reaching behind the back

Treatment

• Stretching therapy
• Corticosteroid injection
• Home exercise program
• Manipulation under anesthesia
• Arthroscopic capsular release

Most patients improve substantially with appropriate treatment and restoration of motion.
