The foundation of recovery is excellent surgery, healthy tissue, adequate protein intake, sleep, physical therapy, diabetes control, smoking cessation, and consistent rehabilitation. Supplements should be viewed as possible additions to that foundation—not substitutes for it.

Patients often spend hundreds of dollars on supplements while overlooking the fundamentals that have far stronger evidence supporting recovery.

I believe supplements should earn their place through scientific evidence. I have no interest in recommending products simply because they are popular. If a supplement demonstrates meaningful biological benefit, has a favorable safety profile, and fits within an overall recovery strategy, it deserves consideration. Otherwise, I would rather patients spend their money on healthier food, physical therapy, or exercise.

If a supplement claims to dramatically accelerate tendon healing, regenerate cartilage, eliminate arthritis, or replace surgery, healthy skepticism is appropriate. Biological healing is extraordinarily complex, and very few products have demonstrated dramatic clinical improvements in high-quality orthopedic studies.
